Baldwinsville Enrichment Day Learns with Therapy Dogs

Bville_School_Presentation_Group_8

PAWS of CNY was invited to attend the Parent Teacher Association’s Enrichment day at Reynolds Elementary School. Long-time PAWS of CNY volunteer Kristin Russell-Miller gave students a presentation on the importance of dog safety. After the presentation, students had an opportunity to interact with PAWS of CNY’s trained therapy dogs.

PAWS of CNY volunteers who attended the event included Marjorie Wentworth and her Golden Retriever Sawyer, Ellie Byrne and her Golden Retriever Ellie, Karin Laskowski and her Golden Retriever Piper, Eric Dayton and his Golden Retriever Cody, Audrey Sauer and her Great Dane Cooper, Susan Stepien and her Bernese Mountain Dog Stella.

The students who attended the event enjoyed learning the proper ways to approach a dog. Understanding that not all dogs are as well-mannered and well-trained as PAWS of CNY’s therapy dogs, students were meant to understand how to read basic dog body language, how to politely interact with a dog, and what to do if a dog reacts negatively.

The best part for all of the students was the opportunity to enjoy meeting (and petting!) the PAWS of CNY therapy dogs.

PAWS of CNY was pleased to be invited to attend the Woodland Elementary School Learning Fair on Friday, March 9. Students were invited to come to the school from 5:30 – 7 p.m. with their parents and families to enjoy a variety of educational and creative activities. One of the evening’s educational activities allowed young students to practice reading their favorite storybooks allowed to PAWS of CNY volunteer therapy dogs and their human owners.

PAWS of CNY pet therapy volunteers Terri Krueger and her Cavalier Spaniel Gemma, Martina St. Leger and her Labrador/Hound Mix Dory, John Stepien and his Bernese Mountain Dog Stella, Peggy Byrne and her golden retriever Ellie, and Jessica Marabella and her Chocolate Labrador Blue all attended the event.

Throughout the evening, students were able to take turns reading stories to their dogs. From Green Eggs and Ham to lessons about dinosaurs, our dogs learned a lot, met new friends, and earned lots of belly rubs.

Thank you to the faculty and staff at Woodland Elementary School for Including PAWS of CNY in this educational and interactive event.
