On April 19, PAWS of CNY volunteers attended the Syracuse University Office of Disability de-stress event. Any student who received services through the office was able to attend. The PAWS of CNY volunteers that attended included Peggy Byrne and Ellie, Christy Nappy and Charliem and Anna Mayerhofer and Lumpi.

Melanie Hoover and her cat Valentino and Peggy Byrne and her golden retriever Ellie participated in this event. The students were interested in seeing how a “virtual pet therapy visit” would impact a person’s health compared to a live visit. They met in the community space in one of the student’s sorority houses with several students.

Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS), a chromosomal abnormality, is the most common known genetic cause of life-threatening obesity in children affecting 1 in 15,000 children. The PraderWilli Alliance of New York held their 23rd annual conference in Syracuse from April 26th 27th. Sunshine Friends, Inc. was a proud participant in this event, as volunteers and their dogs attended the conference to lend support and bring happiness to the children who attended the weekend’s events with their parents.
