The papers, the exams, the studying, and the stress. It’s enough to make any college student feel anxious. To help students relax and feel at least a momentary sense of ease as they enter into finals week, the residence hall leadership team at Day Hall coordinated a pet therapy visit from members of PAWS of CNY.
The simple act of petting a dog has been known to help ease anxiety and improve mood. The students at Syracuse University certainly felt these advantages when meeting with the PAWS of CNY pet therapy teams, which included Flo Anderson and her Shi Tzu Brutus, Bill Coe and his Labrador Mix Webber, Joanne Arndt-Coe and her mixed breed Allie, and Susan Stepien and her Bernese Mountain Dog Stella.
Students were encouraged to spend a few minutes lounging on the floor with the therapy dogs, chatting with one another, swapping stories of their pets back home who they would soon be reunited with, and most of all, laughing, smiling, and taking a much deserved break from the rigors of finals.
