SU Watson Hall Residents and PAWS of CNY De-Stress Together

SU Watson Hall De-Stress with PAWS of CNY

One of PAWS of CNY’s most rewarding services is its college and university de-stress program. Over the past several years, PAWS of CNY has been privileged to attend several local academic institutions during mid-terms and finals weeks to help ease students’ stress and stay relaxed during their most emotionally and mentally draining time of the school year.

Recently, PAWS of CNY volunteers had an opportunity to attend a student de-stress event at Syracuse University’s Watson Hall. Long-time PAWS of CNY volunteer Katie Rossi attended the event with her golden retriever therapy dog, Riley.

“The event at Watson Hall was… very inviting to both dog and handler,” said Rossi. “The students were thrilled to see and visit with all of the therapy dogs…Many students commented on how they missed their dogs at home. I believe it was a joy for them to pet and love a furry friend.”

Students frequently share with PAWS of CNY volunteers how grateful they are to have an opportunity to cuddle and enjoy the company of its trained therapy dogs. Animals like Riley that have a loving nature and a calm demeanor are the ideal candidates for pet therapy work. According to Rossi, she knew instantly that Riley was well-suited for pet therapy work.

“Riley’s temperament and love for people was evident from the moment I brought him home,” said Rossi. “He has been an obedient, relaxed, and confident dog throughout his life. Riley’s gentle soul and kind eyes have given me love and comfort through many difficult times in my life, and I knew that he would offer the same emotional therapy to the general public.”

If you think that your pet may have what it takes to become a PAWS of CNY therapy dog, learn about our application process.
