The students at Syracuse University planned an exceptional fundraiser to benefit Habitat for Humanity on April 11. PAWS of CNY was pleased to be in attendance at the event to cheer on the student volunteers and bring well-deserved smiles to the event.
PAWS of CNY volunteer Ronna Richardson and her golden retriever Cody, who have been volunteers with PAWS of CNY since 2009, and have attended many student outreach events in Central New York.
“The event went well,” said Richardson. “The students were great, loved Cody, and talked about missing their pets at home.” Many of PAWS of CNY’s student outreach events focus on providing students with an opportunity to connect with a pet while they are away from home and missing their families.
“Cody of course was his usual ham,” said Richardson, “[Cody was] leaning up against them and falling down so they would rub his belly with his legs straight up in the air.”
PAWS of CNY accepts therapy dogs and cats of all ages, sizes, and breeds that successfully pass the two-step certification process. Each of PAWS of CNY’s therapy dogs has his/her own personality and brings a special type of comfort, humor, and love to those that they visit.
“Cody to me is special because he just loves the attention that he gets,” said Richardson “If you try to stop petting him, he will take his head and put it right under your arm so that you will keep going.”
