PAWS of CNY has been pleased to attend Wellness Week at Syracuse University for the past several years. To encourage students to take a much-deserved rest from the stress of finals week, the University coordinates a series of wellness-themed activities for students. This year’s event was held outside of Goldstein Student Center. PAWS of CNY has sent therapy dog representatives to the event for the past several years, and looks forward every year to the opportunity to support the University and its students during finals.
PAWS of CNY volunteer Kevin Campbell attended the event with his Leonberger, Chase.
“Chase is a very relaxed boy and loves people,” said Campbell. “The students react to his size and love his coat. They want to hug him and pet him and he enjoys the attention…He also does not mind having pictures taken and has been in a lot of ‘selfies’ taken by the students.”
PAWS of CNY volunteers are happy to interact with students in anyway that helps them to de-stress during finals. Whether they want to interact with a playful dog that makes them laugh, pet a calm dog to help them bring down their anxiety levels, or share stories about their pets back home, PAWS of CNY volunteers and their therapy dogs will respond accordingly.
“Chase is a special therapy dog because of his calm demeanor,” said Campbell, “But [Chase] is always willing to respond to the energy around him. He loves young adults and kids…Chase is a big Teddy Bear of a dog and young adults seem to want to be around him and he is willing and loves to help brighten their days.”
