On December 9, PAWS of CNY volunteer John Neuffer and his golden retriever Molly attended a de-stress event for students at SUNY ESF. Students were encouraged to take a break from studying, and re-charge their batteries with some pet assisted wellness services from PAWS of CNY.
“Molly and I had a great time, and the students love Molly,” said Neuffer. “All the students enjoyed her company. Some couldn’t get enough of her.”
Those who own pets have long known the benefits of sharing one’s home with a loving animal. Our pets help us to connect to the carefree part of ourselves that is free of responsibilities, commitments, and deadlines, and studies have shown that playing with a pet can elevate levels of serotonin and dopamine, which calm and relax.
